Understanding EDDM
With postage again on the rise come January 26th, I want to discuss one option for mail marketing that can save you a significant amount of money, EDDM.
EDDM or Every Door Direct Mail is a relatively new service provided by the post office. It was created for small businesses that have not used direct mail marketing because of COST. EDDM can be great for any business looking to save time and money while targeting a specific area.
SImply put, it gives you the ability to send your direct mail pieces without having to buy a mail list, and could drop your postage cost to as low as 16 cents.
Instead of a mailing list you choose a geographical area (which is one or more USPS routes or one or more entire ZIP codes). The mail piece will go to every dwelling within this area so you need not put an address on each piece but rather something that applies to all, usually Postal Customer.
What are the Benefits?
- No mail list required.
- No postage permit is required.
- You can send the pieces to dwellings only- if you want to exclude business that also fall within the geographical area of your choosing.
- Saves you TIME & MONEY.
Creating your EDDM:
- Size Requirements
- The length of the mailing piece must be greater than its height and its overall measurement cannot be more than 15 inches long and 12 inches high.
- Also, the mail piece must be either greater than 10.5 inches in length and 6.25 inches in height.
- this means a mail piece measuring 8.5 x 11 qualifies for EDDM, as does 6.5 X 11.
- Decide your audience and message
- We can help you formulate your sales message with an emphasis on the fundamentals of direct mail marketing. Including an answer to the question What’s in it for me? from the perspective of the mail piece recipient; a call to action; a sense of urgency; and an eye-catching design with the proper balance between text, graphics and white space.
